Easter Sunday

The first Easter I spent away from family was my freshman year of college. I have no idea why I didn’t go home that weekend, but I didn’t. But I think every other student, all 14,999 of them, did. I went to church that morning and then went through the McDonalds drive through, took my food back to the dorm to sit in my room alone, and called my parents and brother, only to find out they were having a picnic in the park. I cried. I’m not sure if I cried while talking to them or if I held it in until I hung up, but I cried.

I don’t tell that story to start a sad blog because today is not sad! It’s just what popped into my mind when I was thinking of my Easter recap. Enough time has passed that when I think of that Easter, I laugh!

I always feel like Easter Sunday should be a beautifully sunny day! Portland does not agree. It’s chilly and rainy. But it’s not bothering me.

Hope had a 9 a.m. service today instead of our regular 5 p.m. service, so I had to actually set a clock and I was the first person up in the house-something that hasn’t happened since I’ve lived here. On my way to the shower I discovered that Carl and Karen had left me a Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg-the quintessential Easter candy, on the kitchen counter with a note saying how glad they are that I am in Portland. I smiled. I managed to get dressed and even have coffee and get to church on time (good practice for a normal day involving a job hopefully). Church was wonderful and we had quite a few new faces there, which is exciting! It was kind of fun to see everyone in the morning instead of in the evening, but I look forward to returning to our normal 5:00 service time next week!
Several of us went to Cup and Saucer for brunch afterward and it was, as usual, delicious. I came home nice and full and ready for a lazy Easter afternoon. And that’s exactly what it’s been. I feel justified to have been in pajamas for several hours now because the rain in beating down on my window, and rain=pajamas if you are at home with no place to go. I’m not sure what my plans are for the rest of the day for sure. I may, or may not, be leaving the house again. We’ll see. Either way, it’s been a good day.
