Timing is a strange thing, isn’t it?
Back in April I had interviewed for a, gasp, office job, that I really wanted. Like I was super interested. It’s a company that helps find coverage for uninsured and underinsured patients when they need it. It borders on social work/case management, but only as far as the insurance/financial side goes. It was a really in-depth interview, and I knew references had been checked and I was all excited. It sounded really interesting and like I would be challenged and enjoy it. And then I didn’t get it. It was, by far, the biggest disappointment in my job search (and considering the number of jobs I applied for, that’s saying a lot). I was told that I had been a top applicant and they would keep my resume on file for future use. I thought was just a nice way of letting me down.
Two weeks ago I got an email from this same place, saying they had another opening and if I was interested could I come in that week? I called and talked to the lady about it and she explained that she wanted to talk to me not just because I had been a recent top applicant but because this position was a little different than the previous one and she thought it would interest me. This one is located in a hospital and deals a lot with psych patients. She knew I had a degree in psychology and was interested in that. Also it’s an Adventist hospital and they prefer people with faith backgrounds, and she knew I had an MDiv. It turns out that the only reason I didn’t get the job the last time is because the other top applicant was bilingual, which they needed at the time. So I went in that next day and talked for a while with her. Today she called and officially offered me the position, which I gladly accepted.
If Noah’s was my dream baking job involving from-scratch creative desserts, I wouldn’t leave it. But it’s most definitely not that (not from scratch at all) and seriously, the hours are crazy. This new job will be stable and better (aka normal) hours, more money, it’s much much closer to where I live now (and the part of town I want to live in), and is a better option for a long term position. Also, it will be challenging and rewarding in a way that Noah’s obviously cannot be. Plus, it uses both of my degrees, and since I’m still paying for them it will be nice to use them. And like Eugene said when I talked to him today, it’s crazy that I found a job that uses them both since most people had decided I wasn’t going to use either one of them!
So I technically start on Friday for half the day after I work at Noah’s. I’m not sure yet how long I’ll have to work at Noah’s but I’ll be working part time at the new job until my notice is over there. Which means for a few weeks I might be even more sleep deprived than I have been for the past month. But after that, my schedule should normalize!

That's so awesome. God always knows.

I certainly love that you'll be using both your degrees...cause, my mom always reminds me that I have two degrees in a field I rarely work in...just to be a mom & sell Pampered Chef! :) I LOVE IT, and I wouldn't change a thing...and, no one can take my kids or my education away...well, let's hope not!
That is really exciting, Liza. I can't wait to hear more about it as you start your new job!
