Hello! I will not be posting pictures of my ankle this time.
It's doing much better. Last week was seriously a struggle. There were times I looked at it and felt like it was never going to look any better or feel stable. Stupid, I know, but it is what it is.
And then it started looking better. And the swelling started going down even more. And I was able to start putting more weight on it (to my right side's relief-it's tired of carrying me all around!). Now we're down to minimal swelling and bruising. The worst part is that three of my toes look like they're going to fall off. Really? Toes can bruise from a sprained ankle? Yes, apparently if you do it well enough, they can. They are ugly!
I used at least one crutch up until Sunday. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I've been crutch free. I am walking almost normal now, just a slight limp and ever so slightly slower than normal. It feels pretty secure when the brace and tennis shoe are on, but I take them off if I'm sitting for more than a half hour (yes, even at my desk at work) because they need some relief from the compression from time to time. At home, a little bit before bed and first thing in the morning, I can move around very very very slowly barefoot without the brace, but I don't do that long.
Sarah (the summer roommate) is a physical therapist. She came over tonight and we did some exercises. She's assigned them to me to continue to do. She also says if I'm not too sore tomorrow from the exercises, then I can try a stationary bike. After a week of that, I can try the elliptical. And then when I'm in Phoenix and Vegas with David in 10 days, I can maybe think about doing a little dancing. And then once it has been AT LEAST 3 weeks from the sprain, IF it's looking and feeling ok, I can VERY LIGHTLY AND WITH A BRACE try a VERY LIGHT AND GENTLE jog and if it's ok I can remain VERY LIGHTLY AND GENTLY jogging for at least a week before trying anything harder. Awesome doesn't like the idea of any kind of jogging that soon. And I promise if it's not feeling completely ready, I won't. Right now I'm just excited about trying the bike tomorrow.
