Movie Awards 2011

I watched 45 movies this year. I also watched a lot of TV on DVD but I never really keep track of that. This year I have 23 movies I want to mention in some way as part of my 2011 recap of movies. As always, I remind you that the movies I mention were movies I first watched in 2011 but not necessarily released in 2011.

Older movies I watched for the first time and loved:

All About Eve

Being There

Guys and Dolls

Arsenic and Old Lace

Movies made for children that are rather enjoyable as an adult:

Tangled

Ramona and Beazus

How to Train Your Dragon

Movie in which I loved the music but not much else:

Country Strong (not recommended for those who don’t enjoy country music)

Best movie that doesn’t fall into new or old categories because it was released in 2000 and I can’t call that new or old:

Best in Show. This movie is painfully hilarious and I can’t believe I hadn’t seen it before this year.

Newer movies that were great and/or excellent and I would definitely recommend:

Black Swan

The Social Network

Easy A

The Fighter

Winter’s Bone

True Grit

I Love You Phillip Morris

Crazy, Stupid, Love

Jane Eyre (the new one, not any of the old versions-I haven't seen those)

And finally, the best overall movies of the year:

Best movie adapted from an amazing book: The Help. See this movie, but read the friggin book first!

Best feel good movie of the year: Midnight in Paris

Best comedy of the year: Bridesmaids

Best drama of the year: The King’s Speech

That wraps up this year’s edition of movies. Anything I watch over the next week will start the 2012 list.
